Packing

General Packing Advice

You will soon receive an SU Abroad country handbook that contains information pertaining directly to your program. Remember to tuck the handbook into your carry-on luggage. It contains lots of information that will be useful to you once you are overseas. Inside the handbook you will find advice from former participants on what to bring and what to leave home. For now, here are three practical suggestions:

Take half of what you think you need!

No one has ever complained about taking too little. But, we do hear groans from students who realize they have packed too much!

You must be able to carry your own luggage.

Porters are seldom, if ever, available abroad and you cannot always count on finding a luggage cart. Don't load yourself down.

Do not pack valuables in your checked suitcases.

Luggage can go astray occasionally, so make sure your travel documents, money, medication and other important items are packed in your carry-on bag.
