 Ayssa Hillman

Alyssa Hillman is a senior public relations and policy studies dual major from Chicago, Illinois. She spent last spring in the wonderful city of Beijing where she took intensive Chinese language classes as well as intercultural relations and mass media courses. While abroad, Alyssa taught English to migrant-worker teenagers, took Kung Fu lessons and still had time to travel around China and meet Jackie Chan! Back at Syracuse, Alyssa is a Newhouse Student Representative, plays the French Horn in the Concert Band, and works in Events and Technical Services at the Schine Student Center.

Angelina Loverde

My name is Angelina Loverde. I am half Thai and half American. My upbringing in Chiang Mai, Thailand, has influenced me to major in International Affairs and minor in Asian Studies. I am currently a senior at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. In the spring semester of my junior year, I studied abroad with Syracuse University to Beijing, China.

Danielle Shapira

My name is Danielle Shapira and I am a Marketing and Finance major in the Whitman School of Management. I studied abroad in Hong Kong in Fall 2010 and I had the most incredible time. My experience caused me to catch a severe case of the "traveling bug," and because of my new obsession, I spent my Summer working in Germany and traveling through Europe. When I'm not traveling and meeting new people, you can find me at live music shows or simply just on my computer in my bed. Ideally, I'd like to move back to Asia and acquire a job in Hong Kong post-graduation, but we'll see!

Elizabeth Maio

My name is Elizabeth Maio. I grew up in Queens, New York. I am entering my fourth year of college at the New York State University College of Environmental Science and forestry, SUNY-ESF. I love math and science and I study environmental resource engineering at ESF. But I also love language, particularly chinese, and so I followed my studies to China. One year of my college experience was spent living abroad in Beijing with the SU abroad program.

Emerson Gale

My name is Emerson Gale and I chose Syracuse University because it offers an education that can enable me to contribute to advances in international law and education through my studies of Philosophy and Political Science. As a junior, I decided to study abroad in China for six months in order to challenge myself with learning a whole new language, culture, and way of life. I see my time at college as fostering an open mind and a desire for adventure. Not only had my chopstick skills vastly improved while in China, but I also found my Honors Program Capstone thesis topic of studying challenges facing the high school education opportunities for the children of migrant workers in China. My ability to find this interesting issue was the result of my willingness to volunteer as English teacher for migrant school children at a school in Beijing. While at Syracuse, I have progressed my studies of music composition as a piano composer by pursuing college courses, performances and my own experimentation. Recently, I began studying the Erhu, a traditional two-stringed Chinese violin. As a native of upstate New York, I have snowboarded every winter for the last 8 years and met some of best friends at Syracuse through the ski club. I am also a proud member of the lively Syracuse University-Beta Epsilon chapter of the National co-ed Honors Fraternity, Phi Sigma Pi. Most of my greatest achievement and joys so far come from my willingness to try new things during this unique stage of my life.

Jin Fang Chen

Jin Fang is a junior and majoring in accounting in Whitman school of Management. She went abroad to Beijing, China through SU Abroad in spring 2011 and it was the once in a lifetime experience for her. Jin Fang enjoys travel and wishes to go around the world before age 50. In the future, she hopes to become a business woman and open up her own accounting office.

Team Chen

Hi everyone! I'm Team Chen, an International Relations and Biology major and Chinese Studies minor at SU. I recently spent six amazing months in China living in Beijing and Shanghai. Of all the great memories, I have of China my most memorable would be how cheap everything was, ten dollars in China would essentially last me two days, whereas it would only buy me one meal in the U.S! I would happy to share my time abroad and answer any questions!
