Peer Advisors

Peer Advisors

Peer Advisors are returned study abroad students who have deep appreciation for their cross-cultural experience and who would like to encourage others to go abroad. Your anecdotes, advice, and cultural 'expertise' are our best resource for prospective students. If you have exhausted your friends and families with study abroad stories and think that there's no one else out there who wants to hear them, think again!

No matter how much information we try to provide students, what they really need is to hear what you have to say! If you are interested in becoming a SU Abroad Peer Advisor, please fill out the SU Abroad Peer Advisor Interest Form and let us know in what capacity you would like to volunteer. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact SU Abroad at 1-800-235-3472.

SU Abroad maintains a list of active Peer Advisors who are willing to volunteer their time and energy in one or more of the following capacities:

E-Advising

Many students planning to study abroad want to speak with students like yourself who have actually had the experience of going through the process and have lived and studied in a different country. Prospective and accepted students often have specific questions for study abroad alumni. Peer Advisors respond to e-mails and provide information and recommendations where sought. These correspondences are the perfect arena for you to share your insight and first-hand knowledge.

Pre-Departure Meetings

Each semester we hold pre-departure meetings in various cities as well as at Syracuse for accepted students and their parents. Your perspective and input as a Study Abroad Alumni is extremely helpful; students and parents alike will want to know about your SU Abroad experience. These meetings are a great venue for Peer Advisors to share their personal, academic, and cultural trials and triumphs while abroad.

Campus Representation

Your enthusiasm can make all the difference in someone's decision to study abroad!

At Syracuse University

Throughout the academic year, SU Abroad hosts information tables at the Schine Student Center. Peer Advisors man these tables, show pictures, talk about their experience abroad, and answer questions from fellow students.

At Other Schools

Throughout the academic year, SU Abroad staff travel to various institutions to talk to students about our programs, and your contribution is extremely important. As a Peer Advisor on your home campus, you are a key figure in promoting SU Abroad and inciting your peers' interest.

Informational Meetings

Syracuse University Students Only

SU Abroad also hosts informational meetings for specific countries at the main office where students want to hear about your first-hand experience. These meetings are a great venue for peer advisors to share their personal, academic, and cultural trials and triumphs while abroad.
