APH264 Beginning Digital Photography (Fall, Spring)

An overview of lenses, settings and exposure control. Photoshop Lightroom software is used as a digital darkroom, with an emphasis on curves, levels, color adjustment, scanning and printing.

This course is specifically designed for students with no previous experience in photography. Projects, assignments and in class discussions will encourage the student to create a consistent body of work and to further develop his/her own ideas in a creative, personal vision.  Examination of the functions of light and composition, crucial elements in the context of image capture, will be central to the course.

Students must provide their own digital camera with manual settings (better SLR cameras).

Course-related fee: A fee will be billed from Syracuse to cover the costs of certain supplies and Florence site visits (2017–2018 fee = $290).
