COM400.1 Global Perspectives on the Media (Fall, Spring)

This course advances understanding of media culture and global communications from an international/intercultural perspective. It explores how both the news and entertainment media reflect and frame cultural, social, economic, and political realities in an increasingly interconnected and rapidly globalizing world. We look at how foreign correspondents work, the strengths and weaknesses of U.S. media in covering the world, media conglomerates, the rise in alternatives to U.S.-based broadcast and print media, war and conflict reporting and the evolution of the press in Spain.
