ENG420 Fictional Tuscany: Travel through Text (Fall, Spring) NOT OFFERED Fall 2024

Historical study of how the production and reception of cultural texts influence their interpretation.

Explore the genre of travel literature in its various forms by examining how Tuscan landscape, life, culture, and spirit have been lived and transformed through fiction, and how fictional space contrasts with the lived experience of real places in Tuscany. Analysis of short and long fiction excerpts, poems, visual evidence, travel guides, travelogues, and letters from visitors to loved ones combine with on-going critical engagement with and reflection on your own experience while studying abroad.
