REL387 Religious Belief Systems in Everyday Asian Life (Fall, Spring)

This course will cover influential Asian religions (Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism) and also consider belief systems such as feng shui and Chinese customary religions which combine elements of the major religions with ancestral and temple worship and village ceremonies and practices. Students will examine the reaction of Asian belief systems to the introduction in the last 200 years of western religions and beliefs to see what impact these religious/belief systems have on political, social and cultural life in the Chinese and Asian context.
