FIA550.2 : Problems in Art History: Leonardo da Vinci
Description:
A seminar on the life and work of Leonardo, and his relationship to other leading artists of his day. Students present on-site reports on the artist’s major works (except for the Last Supper). Covers Leonardo's studies of anatomy, botany, aerodynamics, mechanics, etc., and selected works by Castagno, Raphael, Andrea del Sarto, Fra Bartolomeo, Bramante, Giorgione, and Correggio. Includes overnight trip to Parma/Milan and a day trip to Vinci/Carrara/Pietrasanta. A course-related fee will be billed from Syracuse (2008-09 fee = $375). Students have the option of signing up for a five-day trip to Paris with the fee announced in Florence and payable with a credit card.
Limited enrollment, with preference given to art history majors.
Prereq: two college-level courses in art history or permission of the instructor.
