HUM400.1 : China: Past, Present and Future
Description:
Required for undergraduate students. Presemester, two-week field studies seminar taught on site in Kunming or Xi'an, Beijing, and Shanghai. The seminar provides an introduction to the diversity of cultures and economies within China and an overview of social conditions and forces that shape people's lives in the PRC. Seminar addresses such topics as economic, political, and legal reform, women's issues, environmental concerns, U.S.-China relations, economic disparities and the widening gulf between urban and rural China. This course precedes the intensive language program at Tsinghua University and is optional for graduate students.
