Course Description

IRP600 : Environment and Development in China: Public Policy Perspective

Description:

This course covers a series of key issues in two major areas of concern in the last two decades’ rapid development of the most populous nation in the world. Despite (or, one may say, because) the amazing economic development, China has almost been haunted by the pressure from a large and ever-growing population, degrading environment and depleting natural resources, and now the shortage in energy supply. This course will introduce the students to challenges in the environment and development arena in contemporary China. Then, the course will lead the students to analyze these issues from multiple public policy perspectives commonly applied in the West and in China. Cross-listed with IRP 400 (additional work is required of graduate students who register at the 600-level).
