ANT600 : Inuit Political Development and Governance
Description:
1. To gain a deeper understanding of the fragile Arctic environment, the relationship between Inuit and their lands and waters, and Inuit perceptions on the impact of climate change.
2. To learn the history of Indigenous political consciousness, the Inuit land claims process in Canada, and the story behind the creation of Canada's newest Territory through that process.
3. To develop sensitivity to the issues facing contemporary indigenous peoples as well as a methodology for field study that incorporates a culture of respect and inclusion.
4. To explore the issues, viewpoints, and stories presented in this seminar through first-hand experience, critical thought, discussion, debate and writing.
