SU Abroad Florence field studies include an optional pre-semester seminar, weekend trips designed for all program students, and field study tied to specific courses.
SU Florence offers students the ability to participate in a 10 day, 2 credit Signature Seminar titled "The Greek Odyssey." Enhance your semester abroad by navigating the Mediterranean across space and time to chart the artistic, cultural, and political origins of western culture. From morning until night, your classroom will be whatever port, piazza, or ancient temple the day’s journey leads you to. Note: this program is optional and registration information is sent to students in their acceptance email.
Some courses offered in Florence have a field study component designed to provide first-hand experience of the living museum that is Florence and Italy. For example, Architecture students in the professional degree programs participate in a distinct field trip series led by architects. When field studies are associated with a course, an extra "course fee" is charged to cover supplies, overnight accommodations, entrance fees and other expenses. A full list of course related fees will be distributed to all program participants prior to registration and course fees are not billed until registration has occured in Florence and students have selected their classes.
In addition to extensive course-related field study described above, there are a number of all-school field trips that give all students, regardless of major, the opportunity to appreciate the history, art, and culture of Italy. Transportation, hotel (in Rome), entry fees and lectures for the field trips are all covered by the Florence program fee. The all school field studies offer students a fantastic opportunity to travel within Italy with the guided expertise of our SU Florence faculty.
