Undergraduate students, with the exception of studio art and architecture students*, live with Italian hosts. This allows you to practice Italian learned in class and to gain unique insight into Italian culture and lifestyle. Hosts are carefully screened and most have hosted SU students for several years or longer. Families represent all walks of life and professions: some are traditional large families, some are retired couples, some are divorced or single parents, some are young couples. Placements are arranged by the housing coordinator in Florence, based on information you provide about your preferences and special needs. Continental breakfast (seven days a week) and evening meals (five days a week) are included in the program fee when you live with a host.
*Studio art and architecture students may share apartments with other students in the program because of the special time commitment required in these programs. The housing coordinator in Florence assists these students by locating available furnished apartments and advising on contractual matters. Students in apartments receive a cash allowance from their program fee to partially cover meals and are responsible for preparing their own food.
