Tuition for Syracuse University students studying abroad will be the standard University tuition plus program fees. All SU Abroad participants are expected to maintain full-time status while studying abroad. For undergraduates, full-time tuition covers a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 19 credits per semester.
Each SU Abroad center and summer program has a unique program fee. In general, the program fee covers costs for pre-departure meetings, orientation programs overseas, required Signature Seminar travel and lodging, cultural activities, housing or a housing allowance, some meals, an international I.D. card, and general field trips that are open to all students. The program fee also includes program services and activities not covered by tuition for which a separate fee is not charged. Please see the country-specific links below for more information.
World Partner program fees vary by country and host institution.
Option II and Option III Students - Due to the local university calendar Option II/III students often remain overseas longer than Option I students and therefore pay an increased program fee to cover the additional housing costs and meals. Santiago students participating in the language immersion or service-learning programs in Cuenca, Ecuador, will have an increased fee to cover additional housing costs and meals.
Students who wish to continue in their current program for the next semester or transfer to a new program site must complete a second online application and have approval from their program director. Students who participate in a second semester abroad pay an adjusted program fee under the following circumstances:
Remaining in the same country
Changing to a different country
Some students spend one semester in one country and then change to another for the second semester. If you choose to do this, you will pay an adjusted program fee for the second semester. The adjusted fee includes orientation, housing costs and meals (where applicable), and other program activities and services not covered by tuition and for which a separate fee is not charged.
Some courses include required materials, lab maintenance, or study tours that are an integral part of the course. If you register for any course with a mandatory study tour(s), you must participate in this field study. Do not plan personal travel until you know when you may be required to take part in a class-related study tour. Fees to cover the costs of materials, lab maintenance, and transportation, accommodation, and/or site entry fees for required study tours will be charged to your bursar account once your registration is processed in Syracuse. Students who choose to participate in optional field study pay these fees to our center with a credit card. A list of confirmed course fees will be sent to you prior to your departure.
Payment and Refunds for Course Fees
Mandatory course fees are billed in the United States and will appear on your bursar's account. Optional course fees are payable at your program location with a credit card before the field trip takes place.
Students who audit courses are responsible for paying the associate course fees. Students who withdraw from a course by the financial drop deadline (indicated in your program calendar) will receive a refund of the unspent and uncommitted portion of the course fee.
There will be no refunds after the financial drop deadline except for an excused absence due to documented health reasons or a class or class-related field trip scheduling conflict. In these cases, only uncommitted and unexpended course fees will be refunded. Course fees will not be refunded in the event of personal scheduling conflicts.
