Admissions Policy

Syracuse University Abroad welcomes applications for a semester, year, or summer of post-secondary study from qualified students at accredited U.S. or international institutions. A complete application includes an official transcript from all post-secondary institutions attended (except Syracuse University), an academic letter of recommendation, and a personal statement describing your interest in and expectations for your study abroad experience. Some programs have additional application requirements, for example a portfolio for studio art, design and photojournalism programs.

To be considered for admission to our programs, you should have at the time of application a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.50 on a 4.00 scale. Meeting or exceeding the minimum cumulative GPA requirement, however, does not guarantee admission to our programs. We make admissions decisions based on a full review of the file, including the academic recommendation, the personal statement, and any disciplinary sanctions. Once admitted to SU Abroad, you must remain a student in good standing (academic and judicial) to participate in our programs.

Although our admissions decisions for most programs are made on a rolling basis, we may give priority consideration to applicants with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. More than half of the students participating in our undergraduate programs last year had a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
