NEW! Mediterranean Odyssey Prequel

Mediterranean Odyssey prequel:
A head start to a semester of study at SU in Florence

Beginning in fall 2008, Florence center students will have the opportunity to get an important head start on their semester abroad through our newest pre-semester study program, A Mediterranean Odyssey. This eleven-day seminar invites students to foreground their studies at SU in Florence by exploring the Greek and Italic roots of western civilization.

From morning until night, by land and by sea, the classroom will be whatever port, piazza or ancient temple to which the day’s journey takes the participants, led by SUF faculty member Alick M. McLean. The city-states of ancient Greece and the capital of the Roman Empire provide the ports of departure and arrival for an exploration of the origins of Western civilization: from Athens to Delphi, Olympia, Mycenae, and Aegina; on to Catania, Syracuse, and Taormina; then on to Rome, and finally finishing in Florence—just in time for the start of the fall 2008 semester.

The prequel is cross-listed in ART/CLA/FIA/HST/HUM, and is intended to prepare students both academically and emotionally for their stay in Europe. The fall 2008 prequel will take place from August 22 - September 2. Applications for Fall 2008 are still be accepted. Apply now at suabroad.syr.edu.
