Design in London

Students majoring in industrial design, visual communications, advertising design and fashion design are invited to apply to participate in an exciting study program in London. This program offers participants the opportunity to take courses in collaborative design and contemporary design history, complemented by studio and academic electives, in a world capital renowned for its cutting-edge design. Students will better understand their host culture and its rich tradition of artifacts by participating in a specially designed open studio environment. The focus will be on the user experience-studying the user and how he or she interacts with a given situation.

The program includes guest lecturers and visits to professional studios.

All applicants to the Design in London Program must submit a portfolio after completing the online application. (See portfolio instructions below.) Normally students register for a total of 15 credits, selected from the following:

An elective class from the arts and sciences, communications, management and retailing courses offered by the SU London Program may also be selected. (View all courses for this program)

All applicants to the Design in London Program must mail a portfolio with the application form.

Portfolio Submission
  • Submit your portfolio in a printed 8 1/2" x 11" format (copies only/color preferred)
  • Portfolio must be labeled with your name, title of work, and date
  • Provide examples of six (6) projects, including research and sketches
  • An example of group work is desirable (describe your role in any group project)
  • Include a one-page letter of intent, describing what you hope to gain from a design experience abroad.
  • Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of your portfolio.
