MHL268 European and American Music Since 1800 (Spring)

Open only to and required for students admitted to the Strasbourg Music Program. This course provides a broad knowledge of the essential currents in European and American art music since the early 19th century. These currents will be investigated in their musical and technical aspects, but also in their dependence and interaction with the social, cultural and aesthetic aspects of their time. Students should go beyond pure encyclopedic knowledge and judge facts in a critical, autonomous way based on the mastering and control of analytical and scientific tools.
