Required for new students. This ten-day interdisciplinary field studies seminar will allow you to witness firsthand the multi-layered cultural and political identities in contemporary Europe, their overlapping (and, at times, contradictory) nature, and their effect on political and social developments. Travel to France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany to examine how the national identities of these countries, and of Western Europe as a whole, are being transformed through immigration and the ideology of multiculturalism. Special emphasis will be placed on the question of multiculturalism in the societies of Western Europe.
