Program Options<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At Syracuse Florence, students enroll in one of the following program options depending on academic focus and level of Italian language proficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Florence Center: Arts & Sciences<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Most students take their courses at the Florence Center in Piazza Savonarola and Piazzale Donatello. All courses except Italian language and culture are taught in English. All students take an Italian language or literature class, but there is no language prerequisite. See course descriptions<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Florence Center: Architecture<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n

SU Architecture students who have completed five semesters of design studio may take their required architecture courses in English at the Florence Center and combine them with an Italian language class as well as a professional elective or architectural history course.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Florence Center: Studio Arts<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Studio art majors and minors can combine studio work in drawing, metalsmithing, painting, photography, printmaking, and silk-screening with courses in art history and Italian language. While majors get priority, studio art courses are also open to all other Florence students, regardless of major or minor.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Florence Center: Engineering<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Second-year students in aerospace, civil, environmental, and mechanical engineering can take their required engineering courses in English, plus an Italian language course, at the Florence Center. (spring only)<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Florence Center: Design<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Students majoring in industrial design, communications design, or design studies can study collaborative design and contemporary design history at the Florence Center. In addition to design courses, students take an Italian language class as well as studio or academic electives. (spring only)<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Florence Center: Discovery Florence<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Discovery Florence gives a select number of first-semester undergraduates the option to begin their college experience by studying abroad at Syracuse University\u2019s Florence Center for the fall semester. (Not offered Fall25)<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Florence Center & University of Florence<\/a><\/strong> (Courses in English)<\/p>\n

In the fall semester, students have the option to take one or two economics or political science courses taught in English at the University of Florence alongside Italian and other European peers. (fall only)<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Florence Center & Intensive Language at the University of Florence<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
