{"id":9815,"date":"2023-11-23T10:45:48","date_gmt":"2023-11-23T10:45:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/florence\/?p=9815"},"modified":"2024-04-29T13:05:16","modified_gmt":"2024-04-29T13:05:16","slug":"italian-professors-publish-article-comparing-study-abroad-to-erasmus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/florence\/2023\/11\/23\/italian-professors-publish-article-comparing-study-abroad-to-erasmus\/","title":{"rendered":"Italian Professors Publish Article Comparing Study Abroad to Erasmus"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/florence\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/11\/ita-profs-article-724x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9818\" width=\"214\" height=\"303\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Italian language professors Alessandra Adriani, Francesca Bea, and Rossella Falciai have published an article in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ornimieditions.com\/it\/ultimo-numero\">the latest issue of <em>Lingua in Azione<\/em><\/a>, a journal about Italian language instruction, on the differences between the US study-abroad model and the European exchange program Erasmus, using Syracuse Florence as a case study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Erasmus is used as an easy reference point when explaining the American study abroad experience to an Italian, but as explained in their article, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ornimieditions.com\/images\/pdf\/study%20abroad.pdf?_t=1700058107\">&#8220;This is Not Erasmus,&#8221;<\/a> there are some important differences.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Erasmus students go to another country [in Europe], for a semester or a year, prepared to integrate into the university and social reality of the destination country, fully embracing the course timetables, lessons and linguistic difficulties. It is a rather radical experience, which requires significant adaptation.* <\/p>\n<cite>Adriani, Bea, and Falciai, &#8220;Questo non e&#8217; Erasmus,&#8221; LIA, n.1, 12\/2023<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, US study abroad students have a lot more support and guidance in their experience living in a foreign country and adapting to cultural differences.
