Many students select one to three courses at the UAM and their other classes at the Syracuse Madrid Center.<\/p>\n<p>If you think you could be a good fit for this program, we recommend reading the information below.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>About the UAM<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uam.es\/uam\/inicio\"><em>Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid<\/em> (UAM)<\/a> is a public university that has become a landmark in the Spanish and international university communities. It is well known for excelling in research and entrepreneurship, teaching, and social commitment.<\/p>\n<p>Its international presence is supported through numerous exchange and training programs with universities throughout the world. The UAM offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses. It is located in the outskirts of Madrid but is well-connected with the Syracuse Madrid Center.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Requisites<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum GPA of 3.0<\/li>\n<li>Minimum of five semesters of Spanish or enrolled in SPA 302 (if there are concerns regarding the language level of the student, a personal interview will be held with the Madrid team)<\/li>\n<li>Some courses require a European official language certificate. For more information, please see below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Spanish Language Level Required<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>History courses<\/strong>: required proficiency in Spanish: minimum five semesters of Spanish or currently enrolled in SPA 302.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hispanic Studies (Literature courses) and Modern Languages, Culture and Communication (Spanish language, linguistics applied to communication courses, etc.) courses:<\/strong> required: Spanish Certificate B2 DELE or SIELE (official European Spanish language certificate)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Information to obtain the DELE Spanish Certificate<\/strong><strong>: <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/examenes.cervantes.es\/es\/dele\/donde\">Directory: where to take the DELE exam<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nyork.cervantes.es\/en\/classes_spanish\/students_spanish\/diplomas_information_spanish.htm\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/nyork.cervantes.es\/en\/spanish_exams\/spanish_exams_info.htm?_gl=1*16sgk91*cent_ga*MTAxODQyMjk3My4xNzQyOTAyMjE2*cent_ga_57JPCLFY9Z*MTc0MjkwMjIxNS4xLjAuMTc0MjkwMjIxNS42MC4wLjA.\">Nyork.cervantes.es Spanish evaluation and certification<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/siele.org\/en\/examen\">SIELE exam website<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Things to Consider<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The UAM calendar differs from that of the Syracuse University Madrid program:\n<ul>\n<li>The UAM program is available for the spring semester only and ends in early June.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>There are extra housing expenses due to the longer semester.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Courses<\/h2>\n<p>Students are encouraged to take one to three classes at the UAM (including the Spanish language course) and the rest of the credits at the Syracuse Madrid Center. If a student requires a heavier course load at the UAM, this can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>How to choose courses at the UAM<\/strong><em><strong><br \/><\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Syracuse Madrid Academic staff suggests courses at the UAM based on several factors such as:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>the level of specialization in the field required to take each course.<\/li>\n<li>the size of the class. General courses are often large, and it might be difficult for students to connect with the professor.<\/li>\n<li>the teaching style of the professors of the courses. The more dynamic, internationally experienced, and interactive, the better.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><em><strong>Course offerings at the UAM are subject to change<\/strong><\/em>.<\/h4>\n<p>Syracuse Abroad cannot guarantee the courses that will be offered. Students in recent semesters have taken some of the following courses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Historia de la Expansi\u00f3n Europea<\/li>\n<li>G\u00e9nesis en la Edad Media Peninsular<\/li>\n<li>El g\u00e9nero en los movimientos sociales e intelectuales contempor\u00e1neos<\/li>\n<li>Historia Contempor\u00e1nea II<\/li>\n<li>Historia Moderna II: siglo XVII<\/li>\n<li>In addition to classes in Spanish, you are encouraged to take your required Spanish Language class at UAM through their \u201cServicio de Idiomas\u201d.
