While some staff members may not speak English, they\u2019re accustomed to working with English-speaking residents.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>What if I lose the keys?<\/h4>\n<p>In the residence halls\/TSH, you\u2019re also responsible for the cost of a replacement key, should you lose it or have it stolen. <strong>This cost is currently 20\u20ac, <\/strong>subject to change.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Can I close my bedroom door?<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>As per building policies, students living in the residence hall or TSH should ensure that their room door is properly closed at all times.<\/p>\n<h4>Which residence hall staff will come into my room?<\/h4>\n<p>The maintenance personnel and also the staff members have access to all the floors and rooms <em>only<\/em> for security reasons or for the room&#8217;s periodical cleaning service.<\/p>\n<p>Your room will be cleaned at least once a week in residence halls or once a month in The Social Hub.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to change the cleaning day or time, please let the residence hall\/TSH staff know.<\/p>\n<h4>Will I share a bedroom with my roommate?<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Students who choose the residence hall option, rather than The Social Hub, will have one roommate from the Syracuse Madrid program. Students at the TSH do not have roommates.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Can I have a friend visit my room and\/or spend the night?<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Guests or visitors are only allowed from 10am to 11pm.<\/p>\n<h4>Will I have a curfew?<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>You won\u2019t have a curfew, but you\u2019ll be expected to be considerate and mindful of the noise you make when you return home during quiet hours. After 11 at night, people can make an official complaint about noises in the corridors, rooms, etc.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>At what time should I stop playing music or talking loudly with my roommate?<\/h4>\n<p>Quiet hours are strictly observed after 11pm.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>What if I cannot sleep at night due to noise in the rooms or hallways?<\/h4>\n<p>People are sometimes unaware of how their actions affect others, and residence halls and The Social Hub have 24-hour security. Call the front desk to let them know what\u2019s going on so they can take action.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I have a package shipped to me from the United States or order from Amazon?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, although we encourage you to have it sent directly to Syracuse Madrid. Staff will email you as soon as we receive it. Use the following address:<\/p>\n<p>Syracuse Madrid<br \/>\n[YOUR NAME] Calle Miguel \u00c1ngel, 8<br \/>\n28010, Madrid, Spain (Espa\u00f1a)<\/p>\n<p>(Tip: Your Amazon Prime membership from the U.S. doesn\u2019t cover international shipping, nor does it apply to amazon.es.)<\/p>\n<h4>How will temperature recommendations by local authorities affect my time abroad?<\/h4>\n<p>As energy prices have skyrocketed all across Europe, it is recommended that you limit the\u00a0<i>total amount of time<\/i>\u00a0that you keep the heating turned on in your home, dorm, or TSH, with a recommended temperature range of 19-21\u00baC (66,2 \u2013 69,8\u00baF). As for air conditioning, temperatures should remain between 24-27\u00baC (75-77\u00baF). This being said, please keep in mind that homestays, dorms, and TSH will each have their own rules based on Spanish government recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>This is not within our control both locally and at the university level. We strongly encourage you to plan accordingly.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Meals<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h4>What time will we have meals?<\/h4>\n<p>Spaniards tend to have dinner late, around 9:30pm. A usual lunchtime is 2:30pm\u20133pm, and bedtime is often as late as midnight. Meal times will be posted on the main door of the cafeteria or dining hall.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Should I notify anyone in advance if I&#8217;m not having lunch or dinner in the residence hall?<\/h4>\n<p>Kitchen staff can save a plate for you to heat up if you notify them in advance that you won\u2019t be making it back in time for dining hours.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>What should I expect at the dinner table?<\/h4>\n<p>Things may be a bit more relaxed at the residence hall, but we advise you to be observant. Notice what the local students do and how they behave.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What if I don&#8217;t like what they cook?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The residence hall offers several options for each meal. While the food is more tailored to local student tastes, there is also an option in case someone does not like what is offered on a specific day: sandwiches, salads, rice, fruit, etc.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Will I be forced to eat red meat and fish?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The residence hall staff will respect your dietary choices and restrictions. Inform the residence hall staff of your food restrictions in advance.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Utilities &amp; Common Areas<u><\/u><span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h4>Is there a check-in process?<\/h4>\n<p>Make sure to fill out the check-in document provided by your residence hall coordinator as soon as you move in to avoid being charged for any previous damage.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>How often will my clothes be washed?<\/h4>\n<p>In the residence halls, students are responsible for washing their clothes. For your convenience, there\u2019s a laundry room on the premises. The price for the washing machine is 3\u20ac, and the dryer costs 2\u20ac per load.<\/p>\n<p>Bed linens and towels will be changed weekly by the cleaning staff.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Will I have Internet access?<\/h4>\n<p>The resident halls have WiFi all around the building. While the WiFi generally works well, don\u2019t expect it to necessarily be as fast as in the U.S.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Is there study space in the residence hall or TSH?<\/h4>\n<p>Yes. The front desk staff can assist you in reserving study rooms.<span style=\"color: #f76900\"><strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I use all the facilities?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apart from the laundry room and the dining hall, the dorms also have a game room, study rooms, an exercise room, and a patio area for resident use.
