{"id":8281,"date":"2025-07-09T09:55:22","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T09:55:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/madrid\/?page_id=8281"},"modified":"2025-07-15T10:15:59","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T10:15:59","slug":"applying-for-and-internship","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/madrid\/academics\/academic-information\/community-engagement\/applying-for-and-internship\/","title":{"rendered":"Applying for an Internship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Internships Guidelines: Requirement and Expectations for Academic Credit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You must have <strong>at least two blocks of 3.5 to 4 hours of availability<\/strong>&nbsp;in your weekly schedule.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The internship requires&nbsp;<strong>45 hours per academic credit<\/strong>, in addition to completing the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/blog\/course\/bps400-the-global-workplace-intercultural-communication-and-change-madrid\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/blog\/course\/bps400-the-global-workplace-intercultural-communication-and-change-madrid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BPS 400 course <\/a><\/strong>. <strong>\u202f<\/strong>This course is designed to build practical skills and reflective thinking for success in a globalized workplace. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Two- and three-credit<\/strong> internships are available in exceptional cases because they require 90 and\u202f135 hours in the company respectively. We recommend doing only one credit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong>level of Spanish required depends on the placement<\/strong>, but you must have&nbsp;<strong>at least an intermediate level (above Spanish 201)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students are&nbsp;<strong>only eligible for internships in fields where they have an academic or professional background<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Internships are not guaranteed<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Internships are unpaid<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>No absences are allowed without a valid reason<\/strong>. You are expected to always demonstrate <strong>professional behavior and attitude<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All internships are&nbsp;<strong>for academic credit<\/strong>&nbsp;and will be&nbsp;<strong>graded with a letter grade<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is important that you fill out the Internship Request form on your OrangeAbroad portal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/blackboard.syracuse.edu\/ultra\/organizations\/_544759_1\/outline\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/blackboard.syracuse.edu\/ultra\/organizations\/_544759_1\/outline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MST Internship section<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Read the information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send the form to confirm your interest<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send your updated resume indicating your level of Spanish language proficiency to Maite Vi\u00f1uelas (mtvinuel@syr.edu)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remember that Internship is only available if related to your Academic background (major or minor)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Steps to Follow Once You Are in Madrid<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Confirm your final enrollment<\/strong>&nbsp;(deadline: September 11)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Attend the Internship orientation meeting to reconfirm your interest<\/strong>&nbsp;(date: September 9)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enroll in the course <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/blog\/course\/bps400-the-global-workplace-intercultural-communication-and-change-madrid\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/blog\/course\/bps400-the-global-workplace-intercultural-communication-and-change-madrid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BPS 400 The Global Workplace: Intercultural Communication and Change<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interview with SU\/Madrid Internship Staff<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Placement interview<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Upon acceptance into a host company, students are expected to fulfill all academic obligations, including regular class attendance and the completion of assigned tasks.
