The program will provide you with a <strong>transportation card <\/strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/madrid\/public-transportation-card\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>tarjeta de transporte p\u00fablico<\/em><\/a>) for the duration of the program that will give you access to unlimited rides on the subway (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metromadrid.es\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">el metro<\/a>)<\/em>, as well as on local buses (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crtm.es\/tu-transporte-publico\/autobuses-emt.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">autob\u00fas urbano<\/a>)<\/em> and commuter trains (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.renfe.com\/viajeros\/cercanias\/madrid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cercan\u00edas<\/a><\/em>) within zone A. For students under the age of 26, the transportation card is valid within the whole <em>Comunidad de Madrid,<\/em> not just in Zone A!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1509 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/suabroad.syr.edu\/madrid\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/09\/tarjeta-de-transporte-300x190.jpg\" alt=\"tarjeta-de-transporte\" width=\"138\" height=\"87\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The metro runs from 6:30am to 1:30 am; however, the monthly public transit card will also allow you to ride the night buses (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/oktransportemadrid.com\/info\/mapa-buses-emt-nocturnos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">b\u00fahos<\/a>)<\/em> from\u00a0<em>Plaza de Cibeles <\/em>once the subway has closed for the night.<\/p>\n<p>If you arrive in Madrid before the program dates or stay after your transportation card has expired, below you\u2019ll find information on the different ways to pay for public transportation in the city.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ten-trip tickets<\/strong> (<em>metrob\u00fas<\/em>) which are valid on both the metro and local buses. The cost of the metrob\u00fas can vary depending on the distance between your destination and the city center. The metrob\u00fas can also be obtained from the touch-screen kiosks at any metro station or from authorized newspaper vendors.<\/p>\n<p>If you travel to or from the<strong> airport<\/strong> by metro, you must also pay a supplement each way. The supplement can be purchased from the touch-screen kiosk; however, it comes included in the transportation pass so you shouldn&#8217;t need it if you&#8217;re paying for the pass.<\/p>\n<p>If you choose to renew your monthly public transit pass after the program dates, you may do so through the touch-screen kiosks at any metro station.<\/p>\n<p>A relatively inexpensive and popular way to travel through Madrid is by taxi. Nevertheless, it\u2019s important to know your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.madrid.es\/portales\/munimadrid\/es\/Inicio\/Movilidad-y-transportes\/Taxi?vgnextfmt=default&amp;vgnextoid=4813dc0bffa41110VgnVCM1000000b205a0aRCRD&amp;vgnextchannel=220e31d3b28fe410VgnVCM1000000b205a0aRCRD&amp;idCapitulo=6254183\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rights as a passenger<\/a>.
