Syracuse Florence Then and Now: Two Alumnae Return After 60 Years (video)

Last May we received a special visit from Susan Baum and Carol Gerst, who returned sixty years after their semester abroad with us. They reflected on what has changed and what has stayed the same as they toured the campus with Director Sasha Perugini, shared their old photos and keepsakes, and sat down for an interview.

STA EXHIBIT FALL 2022-014

On December 7, students, host families, faculty, and staff were invited to view this semester’s final Studio Art + Architecture Exhibition, held as always in the Studio Arts and Architecture buildings in Piazzale Donatello. Once again Syracuse Florence students, beginners and advanced alike, demonstrated their creative talents and exploration of different media in drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, silkscreen and metalsmithing. Deja Vu: Nick Kraczyna’s Childhood Experience of War in Eastern Europe (video)

Swietlan Nicholas (Nick) Kraczyna, studio arts professor at SU Florence since 1998, was born in 1940 in the ethnically Russian part of Kamien-Kashirsk, Poland, near the Russian border. Today, that same town (Kamin-Kashyrskyi) is part of Ukraine.

In this interview Nick recalls his childhood memories of war in Eastern Europe and the disconcerting similarities with what is happening in Ukraine today.
