Open only to students accepted to the Florence Design Program (required).
Design, Society and Technology is an interdisciplinary course that examines the profound impact of design and technology on individuals and society. By exploring the agents that shape culture, values, behaviors, and the adoption of designed products, services, and environments, the course investigates the complex relationships between human experiences and technological advancements. Through the critical analysis of everyday objects and systems, we will explore how technology influences design and, in turn, impacts societal norms and human behavior. Drawing from psychology, sociology, and cultural studies, this course also examines technological advancements through the lens of inclusivity, equity, and cultural responsiveness, asking how these forces shape design practices and influence the ways people interact with the world and one another.
This course has an associated course fee. See the Course Fees webpage for more information.
