Architectural design and theory in Italy from 1400–1600, with a special emphasis on the various cultural contexts the affected the building process and on the relationship between architectural practice and its theoretical framework. Covers Brunelleschi, Alberti, Bramante, Michelangelo, Palladio, and others. Includes a one-day field trip out of Florence as well as local site visits.
Meets with ARC 437.
Course fee: to cover day trip to Ideal City; Florence site visits (2023-24 fee = $215).
