PAI680.1: Turkish Foreign Policy

This course will examine the major themes, issues, and developments in contemporary Turkish foreign policy. The main objective of the course is to provide graduate students with a better understanding of the domestic and international factors that shape Turkey’s approach to its relations with the world. Although we will discuss some of the historical legacies and foundations of Turkish foreign policy, our main focus will be on the more recent trends in Turkey’s regional and global policies. In particular we will be concerned with the developments affecting the relations between Turkey and the West (the United States and the European Union), and Turkey’s policies towards its neighbors in the Middle East, the Caucasus, and the Balkans.
