GEO380.13 Economic Geography

This course will help students to understand the spatial aspects of productive activity and how economic events are related to the intervention of men as transforming agents and to geographic spaces which may facilitate or impede the developments of human activity. GEO380.11 Sustainable Development and the Environment (El desarrollo sostenible y el ambiente)

The course provides a theoretical framework for the study of the environment and sustainable development. It also provides methodological tools for the integrated study of the environment and sustainable development (e.g. environmental inventory, ecological planning, territorial indicators of sustainability, human development index, pressure-state-response indicator, and etcetera.) El curso provee un marco teórico para facilitar el estudio del ambiente y el desarrollo sostenible. También se proveerán instrumentos metodológicos para un estudio integrado del ambiente y del desarrollo sostenible (e.g., inventario ambiental, planificación ecológica, indicadores territoriales de la sostenibilidad, índice del desarrollo humano, indicador de presión-estado-reacción, etc.) Class taught at Pontificia Universidad Católica and may not be available every semester.

GEO380.10 Urban Geography (Geografía urbana)

This course is an introductory study of the urban problem, from the point of view of geography. Topics include: spatial and temporal connotations of a city, urbanization and historical evolution of the cities, the formation of cities in Spain, Chile, and colonial Latin America, migration and city growth, urban geography, contemporary problems. El curso es una introducción al estudio del problema urbano desde el punto de vista geográfico. Los temas incluyen: las connotaciones espaciales y temporales de una ciudad, la urbanización y evolución histórica de las ciudades, la formación de las ciudades de España, Chile y de la Latinoamérica colonial, la migración y el auge de la ciudad, la geografía urbana, y los problemas contemporáneos. BIO380.2 Biotechnology

This course is an introduction to the field of biotechnology. The objective is to discuss the regulations and utilization of biotechnology for food, healthcare, environment and energy. Students also explore ethical concerns raised with biotechnology. (GEN 3005)

FLL180.1 Mapuche Language and Culture (Lengua y Cultura Mapuche)

Taught in Spanish/Mapuche at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica and may not be offered every semester.  This is an immersion course in the Mapuche language and culture, of basic level, designed for students of different careers who have no language skills in Mapudungun. It is based on a communicative, intercultural and functional approach. At the end of the course, participants will demonstrate basic communication skills of the language. (LET075E)

Este curso capacita a los alumnos en el análisis de estados financieros y su relación con el patrimonio, la liquidez, la solvencia y los determinantes de la rentabilidad. Los alumnos aprenderán sobre el planeamiento estratégico, elaboración del presupuesto y proyección de estados financieros. This course will enable students to analyze financial statement and interpret the relationship between a company’s assets, liquidity, and solvency, and the determinants of profitability. Understanding the differences and existing bindings between an ideal element analysis and analysis with equivalent circuit models or real elements to understand, analyze and design simple electronic circuits. Electronic circuit analysis using SPICE simulation tools. Pre-requisites: Circuit Analysis and Signal Analysis (IEE 2412)

EEE380.1 Challenges in Entrepreneurship

Taught in Spanish at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica and may not be offered every semester. This course investigates the challenges associated with the creation of new businesses. The content will be addressed within three modules: “Evaluation and development of opportunities”, in which we will explore which features of business and industries create opportunities for the entrepreneur; “Secure Resources” in which we will examine crucial factors for a successful business enterprise; “Growth and Maintenance of a Company” where we will look at the evolution of a business strategy.
