Introduces students to international communications and mass media, the development of mass media systems and the functions, effects and uses of the media. Covers the status, legal rules and interaction of the European media with governments and European institutions. Examines both print and electronic media and their role in the flow of global and regional information. Focuses on the development of a Global Information Society. Includes sessions with guest speakers from media outlets, public diplomacy specialists and European Union experts, as well as practical assignments at Strasbourg-based European institutions.
