EAR100.1 Introduction to Geology (Fall)

Introduction to the basics of geology, focusing primarily on physical geology through an examination of the basic structure and composition of the materials that comprise the Earth, and the processes that underlie major geologic phenomena. Studying geology in Florence will let us get in touch with the history of geology, observing the major geological phenomena in the field, and walking through an ancient historical city in which geological materials have been used in architecture and relative arts. Includes a four-day “Volcano Excursion.”

Registration restrictions: Enrollment priority to Discovery Florence students. Matriculated SU students may not earn credit for both this course and any of these courses taught on the main campus: EAR 105, EAR 110, or EAR 100 – Intro to Geology.

Course-related fee: A fee will be charged to cover the cost of a four-day Volcano Excursion  and Florence site visits (2018–2019 fee = $400).
