HST300.1 The Italian Mafia (Fall, Spring)

In May 2006, the capture of the Mafia boss Provenzano sparked a renewed interest in the Mafia among Italian society, with political leaders and academic institutions addressing the theme in conferences, interviews, and meetings. The course addresses this topic, focusing on the Sicilian and American Mafias, and analyzing this phenomenon from a historical, social, and cultural perspective. A four-day field study tour to Sicily is a feature of the course. Meets with SOC 300.1.

Course-related fee: A fee will be billed from Syracuse to cover the cost of the Sicily trip (2017–2018 fee = $560).
