PSC429 European Human Rights (Fall)

This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to current human rights law in Europe. While readings will be mainly from legal texts, the course will explore a wide range of political and social issues that are of great importance to all citizens: marriage, divorce, abortion, torture, fair trial, death penalty, homosexuality, illegitimacy and obscenity. Through study of the European Convention on Human Rights, students will learn about the culture, morals and values of the peoples of Europe. Includes attendance at one or more hearings of the European Court, which is located in Strasbourg.
