Course Name: LIT423 Italian Cinema: 1945 - Present - SPRING ONLY
Description: A survey of Italian cinema from 1945 to the present. The course will analyze major works by a number of different directors (Rossellini, Fellini, De Sica, Pasolini, Bertolucci, Antonioni, Scola, the Tavianis) from two major perspectives: the evolution of the Italian cinema as an art form with emphasis on cinematic style and the Italian cinema as a reflection of major social and political problems in post-war Italy. Students will be required to attend screenings of films to be discussed. Taught in English. Meets with FIL 300.1.
