Italian Visa Tips

  • Make sure your passport is valid for at least six (6) months beyond your anticipated last day in Italy.
  • Make sure your passport is signed by you!
  • You cannot apply for a visa while you are traveling with your passport. Do not make plans to travel abroad before the program begins, SU Abroad cannot guarantee how long the consulates will take to process your visa and when your passport will be returned to you.
  • You must apply at the consulate for the city and state of your residence.
  • Submit only original documents, unless otherwise noted. Faxes or photocopies are absolutely NOT accepted.
  • You must send an official passport photograph. Color photocopies and personal photos will not be accepted by the consulates.
  • Be sure to have appropriate documents notarized before sending them to SU Abroad. Every bank has a notary public.
  • Check your consulate's financial requirement as some require bank letters and others will require bank statements. One cannot be used in substitute for the other.
  • Never send a passport and visa application documents in the regular mail. Send them to SU Abroad via an express carrier and record the tracking number.
  • When your visa is returned to you, check the dates on your visa to see that they match the dates you will be studying abroad.
  • Submit your documents for visa application early so corrections can be made if necessary.
