COM350 Topics in Media, Diversity & Inclusion (Fall, Spring)

This course will examine the role that media contents play in producing cultural meaning and their interaction and impact on society over the past two centuries, with a focus on diversity and inclusion. Many aspects of the contemporary western visual culture will be analyzed, from still images to movies passing through new technologies like NFT, Metaverse, AI and social networks. Case studies will focus on some of the main players in the media scenario from the master of the Italian neorealistic cinema Federico Fellini, to the Italian world awarded photographer Oliviero Toscani; and from the communication strategies of some distinctive Italian company like Gucci, to the case of Chiara Ferragni in the social media world.

Counts as an IDEA course requirement for Syracuse students.
