LIT300.3 Comedy and Satire in Italian Film (Spring)

Survey of the Italian Film Comedy from the late Fifties to the present, tracing the transformation of the genre from the inherently domestic to the more globalized. Films screened – outside of class time – shed light on contemporary Italy’s society, gender roles, history, and politics. You will examine storytelling, comedic mechanisms, national and transnational humor, critics’ and audience reception, and formal aspects of film as a genre, while connecting your study to American and foreign pictures.
