Taught in Spanish. This course will deepen your knowledge of the Mapuche people through the examination and analysis of various aspects of its culture and its aesthetics. We will reflect on the production and meaning of its material culture (ceramic textiles, silverware) and on the representation of the Mapuche people in different iconographic contexts (prints, paintings, posters, advertising, photography, film, and video, among others).
Upon completing this course successfully, you will
- Know and understand aspects of Mapuche culture and aesthetics expressed in aspects such as religion, history, social structures, and material culture.
- Be able to critically evaluate problems associated with Mapuche culture and society today.
- Be able to analyze issues facing the contemporary urban Mapuche population with respect to the tensions between ancient traditions and the modern world.
