Customize your summer program in London by choosing from an array of courses or travel across England on our Green Britain Seminar. To take full advantage of the city, most of your courses will feature field trips and excursions. (3-6 credits)
Complete your summer internship in London! Get some professional experience in a major international city with our 5 or 8-week summer internship program. Summer internships are available in a variety of fields, including business, communications, education, music, and technology. (3 credits; BPS 400)
This program, for law students only, is open to students from law schools throughout the United States. Students learn about the English legal system through immersion in a practice setting and partnerships with experienced mentors, and provides a genuine comparative law experience. (5 credits, LAW 910)
Media, Diversity and Democracy at Home and Abroad
Students will spend three immersive weeks in two of the world’s great political capitals — Washington, D.C. and London — exploring how diversity and representation shape each country’s media landscape and democratic culture. In D.C., students will tour the National Archives, walk the halls of Capitol Hill, and visit national news outlets, grounding their academic study in the living institutions of American democracy. The program then continues in London, where students will tour the British Parliament, visit major British news organizations like The Guardian, and engage with leading practitioners including political strategists and media professionals. Trace the history and culture of the Olympic movement through some of its most significant sites in Europe. In this 3-week trip, students will visit the following cities and meet with various sport organizations and learn about the Olympics and international sport: London, UK, Paris, France, Lausanne, Switzerland and Athens/Olympia, Greece. Cannes Market Immersion: The International Film Biz Behind the Red Carpet
Cannes Market Immersion is an intensive, faculty-led study abroad experience that embeds Syracuse University students directly in the Cannes Film Festival and The Marché du Film — the world’s largest film market, where more than 12,000 industry professionals from 120+ countries converge for two weeks each May to negotiate deals, acquire films, and forge the partnerships that shape international cinema. Ireland
Landscapes of Ireland: People and Place in a Divided Nation
This course centers around Ireland’s political, cultural, and natural “landscapes” – a term that geographers use to refer to how communities imagine their relationship with and shape their physical environments to reflect social stories about their identity. Through the lens of Ireland’s two distinct capitals – Dublin and Belfast – students will investigate the spatial manifestations of Irish identity in the built and natural environments of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Italy
The Florence Summer Session allows you to customize your program according to your interests and desire for exploration. To enhance your learning experience, most courses feature field trips and excursions within Florence and to locations outside the city. Internships are also available. (3-7 credits)
Spend your summer at our Florence Center developing your professional skills and earning credits toward your degree, plus the option of a 1 credit language course. Students participating in the Florence Summer Internship have the opportunity to develop cross-cultural competencies and grow their professional experience abroad, while earning 3 credits under the departmental credit BPS 400 over the course of 6 weeks. Italian Film Studies in Bologna
Attend the world’s most famous classic film festival, Cinema Ritrovato, while immersing yourself in all aspects of film. Based on a total filmmaker/film studies approach, this intensive program combines the study of film history, visual strategy, preproduction planning, and production. The Italian Cinema class will give you a broad perspective on Italian Neorealism and its legacy—from filmmakers such as Rossellini and Fellini to contemporary filmmakers. Film projects are done in groups of two or three, with a focus on filmmaking. The goals are to engage in creative and ongoing dialogue with your new surroundings and to reduce the gap between reality and perception through use of the film medium. During the program students will also have an opportunity to learn survival Italian, explore Bologna, and travel to regional cities and villages. (3 credits, FIL 400/600)
From the Finger Lakes to Tuscany: Wine and Food PR
This immersive program uses the world of wine and agritourism as a professional laboratory for studying public relations in action. Over ten days, students explore how wineries and farms of every scale — from multigenerational family estates to internationally recognized luxury brands — build reputation, manage stakeholder relationships, and communicate their identity across cultures. Students will spend the first week in the Finger Lakes wineries and then fly to Florence to study/compare with the wineries in Tuscany. Equal parts classroom and field experience, this program prepares students to think and practice like global communications professionals. (3 credits, PRL 500)
Poland
International Filmmaking with WWII Documentarians
In this program, students are film production crew members with the WWII Foundation, which honors the legacy of veterans and survivors by producing documentaries which broadcast nationwide on PBS affiliates and globally online, gaining what may be their first professional credit. Additionally, each student will produce their own independent projects on a topic of their choosing, showcasing stories they could only produce in this unique setting. (3 credits, TRF 400/600)
Spain
Create your own program by choosing from an array of courses in a variety of subject areas, including Spanish, LGBT Studies, and Psychology. Travel around Spain, visit Madrid’s art museums, and attend the theater and concerts. Or, experience the Spanish workplace by doing an internship with a local business. (3-6 credits)
Historic Preservation of Monuments, Public Memory, Space, and International Law in Spain
This course explores how cities use law, culture, and public space to shape collective identity, preserve heritage, and engage with difficult histories. Using Barcelona as a living classroom, students will examine the role of international legal frameworks, including UNESCO, in the protection and interpretation of cultural heritage while visiting sites of architectural, historical, and social significance.
