Berta Agudo
Spanish language
Berta Agudo graduated in modern languages and literature at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She was working on teaching various languages (English, Italian, French, and Spanish) but in the end decided to specialize in Spanish as a foreign fanguage, teaching Spanish in Italy. She obtained a master’s degree in Spanish as a second language at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
Ever since she finished her studies, she has been collaborating with different institutions, such as Middlebury College in Spain, Southern Methodist University (SMU), Chapman University, ESCP Business School, and, lastly, Syracuse University. She enjoys sharing her culture and learning from her students, which she does every day.

Prof. Teresa Boemo
Psychology
Dr. Boemo holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). Her research focuses on emotion regulation, cognitive biases, and affective disorders, and she has published several high-impact peer-reviewed articles in international journals. She has been involved in multiple predoctoral and postdoctoral funded research projects, with a particular emphasis on experience sampling methods to investigate emotional processes in daily life.
Dr. Boemo is currently a professor at the University of Alcalá. She has also taught courses related to Clinical Psychology (Assessment and Diagnosis, Psychological Treatment, and Personality) at the Complutense University of Madrid. In addition, she has taught Cognitive Psychology at Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio.

Prof. Miguel Campión Larumbe
Spanish language
With a long career as a Spanish teacher working with students of diverse nationalities, Prof. Campion has authored several instructional materials for teaching Spanish, published by renowned companies such as Pearson, Wiley, and EF. In his efforts to promote the Spanish language, he published a work in 2002 focused on teaching Spanish as a second language through reading comprehension practice: “Una desaparición misteriosa” (Edinumen).
In addition to his teaching activities, he has concentrated his research on Spanish Golden Age literature, with a particular emphasis on literary collaboration and the application of digital humanities to its study. His doctoral thesis (2022) involved a critical edition and study of the two versions of the play El mejor amigo, el muerto. Continuing his research on this play, he has published articles on the collaborative methods of playwrights in multi-author works.

Prof. Vicente Carmona

Prof. Carmona received a Ph.D. from UCLA (20th century Spanish literature, literary theory and cultural studies) and taught Spanish language, literature and cinema at American universities such as USC, Smith College, and LSU before returning to Spain. He has also worked as a journalist for EFE (Spanish News Agency) in South and Central America. As a translator, he has published several books on film and literary theory. In Madrid, he teaches Spanish language, Spanish literature and film at USC and Syracuse University. He is currently working on the script for several TV documentaries on cultural issues.

Sebastián Chávez
Sociology
Sebastián Chávez is a Sociologist, MA in Visual Culture, currently researching in the area of Sociology of Sports. He has worked as a teaching assistant at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile revising subjects related to the development of modern society and culture, philosophical anthropology, and folklore. He has also taught as a university professor at Universidad Europea de Madrid and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, teaching diverse aspects of the Sociology of Sports to undergraduate students, and as an invited professor at Universidad Austral de Chile, as teacher of survey methodology.
While he has also had professional non-academic experience in the areas of Education, Culture, Project Management, and Media, his areas of academic interest have been the Sociology of Martial Arts, Sport Disability Studies, employment and volunteering in the sports sector, East Asia, museography and heritage studies. His present work dwells on the construction of proper technique in Japanese martial arts from an ethnographic perspective.

Miriam de Miguel
History of Art Teaching Assistant
Miriam de Miguel Ezaguoi works as a Technical Advisor in the Subdirectorate General for Promotion and International Relations at the Spanish Institute for Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) of the Ministry of Culture. With a solid background in cultural management, she is a civil servant of the Spanish Corps of Museum Curators and has held positions in institutions such as The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and the State Secretariat for Communication of the Presidency of the Government.
Previously, she spent several years in the US, where she held positions at the Visual Arts Department of the Americas Society in New York and the Cultural Office of the Spanish Embassy in Washington DC after completing her master’s degree on a Fulbright Scholarship.

Celia Fernandez is an experienced international affairs specialist and educator whose work bridges global policy, development, and academic engagement. Prof. José Miguel Fernández Dols
Psychology
Prof. Fernández Dols is a full professor of psychology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and has taught many different courses during his academic career. He is particularly interested in four disciplines: social psychology, political psychology, cross-cultural psychology, and emotion. For the last 10 years, Dr. Fernández Dols has taught social psychology and political psychology to European undergraduate students, cross-cultural psychology to U.S. undergraduate students, and emotion to graduate students at universities in both sides of the Atlantic.
Dr. Fernández Dols’ research focuses on facial expression and everyday conceptions of emotion in different cultures. He is also interested in the study of societal problems related to justice, social norms, and moral behavior.

Mauricio Freyre
History of Art Teaching Assistant
Mauricio Freyre is an architect, artist, and filmmaker whose practice operates at the intersection of film, installation, and performance, combining research-based methodologies with expanded cinematic forms. His work examines the relationships between cinematic language, architectural thinking, and archival imaginaries, with a focus on how colonial histories and spatial narratives are reactivated through the moving image.
In 2025, he completed the Artistic Research Residency at the Museo Reina Sofía within Museum of the Commons – Climate, where he presented Mal de ojo and Fundamental Errors. That same year, his first feature film, Estados Generales, premiered in the official selection of FIDMarseille and IDFA. His installation Interspecies Architecture (2021) was exhibited at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, and he received the National Award for Experimental Works from the Ministry of Culture of Peru in 2018. Alongside his artistic practice, he teaches at institutions such as KABK (The Hague), The Berlage (Delft), and UNAV (Navarra), among others.

Prof. Enrique García Pérez is an anthropologist specializing in the fields of audiovisual anthropology, research methods, and techniques of applied anthropology.
He currently works as a professor at Universidad Complutense de Madrid where he teaches audiovisual research methods & techniques, cultural anthropology of Spain, and introduction to social anthropology for students of tourism & commerce.

Alba Grao Rico
Spanish language
Alba Grao Rico is a dedicated Spanish instructor at Syracuse University in Madrid where she has been teaching since 2017. She holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and education sciences and a master’s degree in teaching Spanish as a foreign language, and she is a certified DELE examiner.
Alba began her career as a Spanish professor at the Instituto Cervantes and University Suor Orsola Benincasa, both in Naples, where she spent several years. Alba taught Italian at Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, Madrid, as well as Spanish for different language schools. She has also worked as a translator, DELE examiner, and with students with special needs in a public center.
Alba aims to teach Spanish not just as a language, but as a gateway to understanding Spanish and European cultures, inspiring her students to develop a deep passion for learning new languages.

Prof. María Guijarro Sanz

María Guijarro Sanz received a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, with a specialization in Spanish as a Foreign Language and cognitive approaches to second language acquisition. Her doctoral research focused on the cognitive processing of Spanish relative clauses.
She has taught Spanish language, grammar, and composition at different levels at UCM and has collaborated with international academic and educational institutions. In parallel with her teaching activity, she has worked as a Subject Matter Expert in digital learning and instructional design projects related to neuroeducation and cognitive science applied to education.

Prof. Violeta Janeiro
Art History
Prof. Violeta Janeiro holds a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), where her research focused on collaborative artistic practices in Spain during the 1990s. Her career centers on artistic research into women’s resistance movements in Spain during the 1970s, as well as on curatorial practice. She has curated and co-curated exhibitions at institutions such as CA2M (Madrid), MUAC (Mexico), MARCO (Vigo), Kubus (Hannover), and Matadero Madrid, and is currently preparing upcoming shows at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), Azkuna Zentroa (Bilbao), and Le19 CRAC (France).
She served as director of the XVII Fotonoviembre International Photography Biennale (2023–2024), and has participated in juries, seminars, and public programs across Latin America and Europe. In addition, she teaches at Nebrija University and the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), and since 2021, she has led Interferencias, a research project on the oral histories of women artists born in the 1930s and 1940s in Spain.

Prof. Antonel Jepure

Prof. Jepure has spent over 15 years working on archaeological research focused on assimilation and acculturation in Spain’s late antiquity and Visigothic period in several Spanish universities (UPV–Vitoria, UAH–Alcalá de Henares, UAM–Madrid) and for the Museo de Segovia. His research interests and experience are centered on paleoanthropology, archaeology, early medieval studies, and subaquatic archaeology. He has participated in several excavations in Spain, Germany, and Croatia.

Prof. Matthew Kineen
English and textual studies
Prof. Kineen has over 30 years of teaching experience at the university level in the U.S. and Spain, in courses ranging from the Classics, to Colonial/Postcolonial, to Modern Irish Literature, Culture and History. The Hemingway in Spain course at Syracuse University Madrid is part of a larger research project on the connections between U.S. writers and Europe in the twentieth century.
As part of this work, Prof. Kineen recently published “‘The Man from Cook’s’: Hemingway and the Demise of the World’s Oldest Travel Company” (Hemingway Review, Fall 2021).
Beyond the classroom, the Hemingway course includes an excursion to the Guadarrama mountains to explore the setting of the Spanish Civil War novel For Whom the Bell Tolls and a visit to the Museo Taurino in Madrid, to discuss the tradition of bullfighting and Hemingway’s passion for it.

Prof. Marcelino is a creative advertising professional, brand communications specialist, and visual artist. She holds a Ph.D. in advertising, communications, and public relations, as well as a Master’s Degree in strategic advertising and a Bachelor’s Degree in advertising with a specialization in creativity.
As a brand communications consultant and digital content manager, she has worked with several global brands. Her work has a special focus on social transformation, diversity, equity, and representation, also promoting communications, advertising, and branding studies with an antiracist and anti-stereotypes approach. As a visual artist, she has participated in contemporary art festivals in Spain, Mexico, Cuba, the United States, and the Dominican Republic and as an activist has been part of the team of speakers and press representatives of recognized antiracist organizations in Spain.

Prof. Leticia Martínez

Prof. Martínez has been teaching courses titled “Health Psychology, Wellbeing, and Techniques of Intervention” at IE University and Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She received a Master’s Degree in clinical and health psychology (2014), and she has completed a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. She is interested in new approaches in psychopathology and assessment (such as taxometrical approaches or network analysis), cognitive biases, dimensions of self-esteem, and well-being in psychotic patients.
She is also interested in applying experimental methodologies and new technologies (eg, IAT, ESM, APPs …) to the study of psychopathology and the promotion of well-being. Prof. Martínez also works as a clinical practitioner of third-generation therapies (e.g., acceptance and commitment therapies, mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy) and positive psychotherapy.

Andrea de Miguel
Psychology
Andrea de Miguel is a forensic doctor. She has been teaching psychopathology at Universidad Isabel I. She has also worked as a professor at Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio, designing and developing practical workshops about psychological damage in victims of gender-based violence. She has been a mentor for Legal Medicine Interns of Psychiatry.
Currently, she works as a forensic doctor at Madrid Provincial Court issuing psychological and psychiatric reports. She has also worked as an associate professor in the Master’s Degree Program for medical expertise and evaluation of psychological and body damage at AMIR, as an associate professor at the European University of Madrid, and as a professor and mentor for the preparation of legal medicine specialization for the Spanish state.

Mónica Pérez-Bedmar

Mónica Pérez-Bedmar holds a B.S. in biological oceanography and a M.S.Sc. in coastal zone management and is at present pursuing a doctorate in ecology. She lived in the United States for more than 10 years working in and collaborating with several environmental agencies dedicated to the protection of coastal areas. Mónica has taught oceanography and environmental science in several U.S. university programs in Spain for several years.
She conducts field research and field trips with students often and has collaborated with several research projects in the environmental field. In addition, Mónica is a certified diver and sailing instructor and is an avid nature explorer.

Prof. Elena Postigo
History
Prof. Postigo specializes in European and Spanish and Latin American history. She has taught at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) for 25 years at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels. Prof. Postigo has taught at different European universities at the post-graduate level (Paris, Rouen, Bordeaux, Naples, Pisa, European Institute – Florence –, Évora, Porto, Zaragoza, Cantabria). She has also taught in Argentina. She has published two books and over 60 articles in Spanish and European magazines and has participated in 20 international and 10 national conferences.
Prof. Postigo has been the director of eight research projects (I+D), five of which were financed by the European Community and three of which were financed by the Spanish Ministry of Education. Finally, Prof. Postigo has been the director of six teaching innovation projects. Currently, she is a full professor of history at UAM, the coordinator of the international doctorate of history of women and gender in Europe (Universities of Paris, Rouen, Naples, Edinburgh, Vienna and UAM). She has been director of seven doctoral dissertations and 15 masters theses.

Prof. Rodríguez Chaparro earned his Ph.D. from New York University in 2019. A former Fulbright scholar, his research interests include museum studies, Spanish painting and graphic arts, art of the Age of Revolution, and the work of Francisco Goya. He has worked in different capacities at institutions such as the MoMA, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Hispanic Society Museum & Library, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
He currently serves as an Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies, at IE University.

Prof. Ernesto Rodríguez Crespo
Economics
Prof. Rodríguez Crespo is a tenured associate professor at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where he teaches courses in applied economics within the department of economic structure and development economics. Previously, he served as an assistant professor at the same university and also taught at Universidad Nebrija in Spain. He has over 10 years of teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels and is actively involved in implementing active learning methodologies.
In terms of research, he works in evolutionary economic geography and international trade and has an extensive background in academic publications and research projects related to these topics. He joined Syracuse Madrid in January 2024 to teach the topic “The World Economy.”

Prof. Marina Rodríguez del Valle
Biology
Prof. Rodríguez del Valle earned an M.S. and a Ph.D. in immunoparasitology. She completed her post-doctoral research in the fields of toxicology and pharmacology. She has extensive experience teaching courses in microbiology, cell biology, and microbiology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Prof. Rodríguez del Valle has worked in U.S. universities in Spain and in Mexico. Her interests involve the study of host-parasite relationships, how microbes evade the immune system, and the development of new drugs for microbial control.

Rosa Sánchez de Oña

Rosa Sánchez de Oña holds a law degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a degree in translation and interpreting from the Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio, and an M.A. in teaching Spanish as a foreign language from the Universidad Carlos III. She has worked as both a legal translator for relevant legal firms and as a Spanish language instructor for corporate executives in Germany and France.
After having lived abroad for more than 10 years, she knows how important it is to learn not only the language, but also the culture of the host country in order to achieve a rewarding academic experience. She thoroughly enjoys teaching Spanish and working with college-age students.

Prof. Pilar Sánchez Millas
Political science
Since 2002, Prof. Sánchez Millas has been teaching history and political science courses at Syracuse Madrid, including numerous field trips to interview politicians involved in the peace process of the Basque Country and its relationship to the Spanish state.
Prof. Sánchez Millas’ Ph.D. dissertation analyzed the period of absolute majorities of the socialist party, dealing specifically with the teamwork built for the Spanish politics towards the European integration process. Her research projects include identifying, classifying, and storing the personal files of a main character in the Spanish transition to democracy, Francisco Fernández Ordóñez, who was an outstanding promoter of opening up the country to the rest of the world after forty years of dictatorship. Prof. Sánchez Millas continues to research and write about people involved in peace, transitions to democracy, and the conciliation politics behind these.

Lucía Tomás

Miss Tomás Lluquet is a psychologist and clinical practitioner interested in applying Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to promote personal growth, emotional well-being, and healthy organizational cultures. She holds a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from the International University of La Rioja (UNIR) and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from IE University, with an academic exchange semester at The University of Hong Kong.
Her professional background combines clinical practice with teaching and organizational consulting. At MindPlace Madrid, she provides psychotherapy and facilitates workshops on emotional regulation, cultural adaptation, and mental health for international students. Previously, she worked in learning and development at Accenture and Smart Culture, where she designed and delivered programs on leadership, emotional intelligence, and behavioral change for diverse teams.
Her teaching philosophy centers on experiential and collaborative learning, integrating psychological theory with real-world application to foster reflection and personal growth.

Prof. María Torrano

Prof. Torrano has wide-ranging experience in teaching English and Spanish as second languages. She has been teaching Spanish for foreigners for almost 10 years, abroad (Lisbon, France) and in Spain, in different universities (CEU San Pablo, Syracuse Madrid) and language schools (Tandem, Alce Lenguas).
Every summer she teaches language and culture at the Spanish courses of Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo in Santander. She is also a freelance translator (English, French and Spanish) and a DELE examiner.

Luis Miguel Villalba Morales

Luis Miguel Villalba Morales graduated in General Literature and Comparative Literature. He later completed a Postgraduate Course in the Didactics of Spanish at the University of Barcelona and obtained a Master’s Degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
Since completing his studies, he has collaborated with a range of educational institutions, including the International Academy of Languages of Madrid and Cronopios Idiomas. Prof. Yrizar has taught at the undergraduate university level since 2003, first as a TA at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and later as a lecturer at Syracuse University Madrid. At Syracuse Madrid, she has taught several history and political science courses, including the Imperium and Azahar Signature Seminars. As of 2008, she collaborates with a graduate program at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
