Academic Probation Policy Appeal

Academic Probation Policy Appeal Process: Syracuse University students applying to all programs

Eligibility

To be eligible to submit an academic probation policy appeal:

  • Students who meet the minimum cumulative GPA requirement for their program at the time of application.
  • Appeals may only be considered if the Syracuse University School or College supports the student studying abroad.

Appeal Process

Appeal documents must be submitted in their entirety to Syracuse Abroad at 106 Walnut Place or emailed to suabroad@syr.edu at least 2 weeks in advance of your program application deadline. Late applications will not be reviewed.

Student must:

  • Be an active applicant and have all application checklist items completed.
  • Prepare a statement of up to one (1) page explaining the special circumstances and reasons for being placed on academic probation.
  • Obtain a signed Statement of Support for Study Abroad from your academic advisor and send it to Syracuse Abroad. Your academic advisor has the option to email it directly to suabroad@syr.edu.

Review Process

The Academic Review Committee at Syracuse Abroad is responsible for reviewing applications and making a final determination.

  • Academic probation policy appeals will be reviewed within two weeks of receiving a completed appeal.  Syracuse Abroad has rolling admissions and applications for admission are reviewed in the order they are completed. Admission into your first-choice Center program will be contingent upon availability of space; if denied your first choice, you will have the opportunity to request an alternate location.

The decision of the Academic Review Committee is final and cannot be appealed. Syracuse Abroad reserves the right to deny any appeal.
