CFE380.1 Theory of Education

Taught in Spanish at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica and may not be offered every semester. The course focuses on identifying the epistemological nature of pedagogical knowledge, its scope and purpose, the study of its mode of production, circulation, consumption and control. It stresses the character of theoretical and practical knowledge and its structure as scientific knowledge. In this regard, we distinguish basic theoretical concepts and categories in one part of the course and in the other part we discuss the pedagogical approaches of different teachers and the main directions of contemporary teaching, with specific attention to its impact on and relevance to education in Chile and Latin America.

BUA380.1 Business Ethics

Course objectives include to develop basic assumptions in moral matters, based on the classical principles of Aristotelian-Thomistic ethics, which permit us to address ethical issues inherent in the business world; to explore different points of view on actual ethical issues from the experience of various business professionals; and to familiarize students with ethical evaluations, applied to the development and analysis of case studies specific to business ethics. BIO480.1 Biological Invasions (Invasiones Biologicas)

Taught in Spanish at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica. Biological invasions are one of the three components of global change on a global scale. This course emphasizes the conceptual framework of biological invasions (theories, hypotheses, approaches) and its empirical evaluation using scientific protocols, using research by Chilean ecologists. BIO380.2 Wildlife (Fauna Silvestre)

Taught in Spanish at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica. This course allows the student to learn distinct management systems of wildlife and control techniques of dangerous species for agriculture. (UC code: AGZ 222)

BIO380.1 Microbiology (U de Chile)

Taught in Spanish. This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive and updated general knowledge about bacteria and viruses, gene-transfer mechanisms and biology of eukaryotic microorganisms, relationships with bacteria, endosymbiosis, ecology and evolution. The theoretical part is complemented with practical activities and seminars, which will deepen some aspects covered in class.

BEN380.2 Fundamentals of Biotechnology – Fundamentos de Biotecnología

Taught in Spanish at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica and may not be offered every semester. This course offers students an overview of the different aspects of biotechnology: its history, definitions, projections and real-world applications. However, biotechnology is also a double-edged sword for its ability to modify and alter the course of nature, posing potential risks and ethical dilemmas. Therefore, given the importance of these issues, the course is also interactive, as we debate and discuss topics related to bioethics. (IIQ 2663)

BEN380.1 Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics – Bioquímica y Genética Molecular

Taught in Spanish at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica and may not be offered every semester. The course addresses the structural aspects of biomolecules, the chemical and energy changes they undergo in the cell, as well as some mechanisms of enzymatic reactions and the molecular basis of the processes of replication and expression of genetic information. AST180.1 Astronomy – Astronomia

Taught in Spanish. The objective of this course is to present a modern view of astronomy. The course presents the physical foundations of astrophysical processes and concepts regarding size, composition and evolution of heavenly bodies and the universe. Observational experiences will be made.

APH380.5 Portrait Photography (Fotografia de Retrato)

Practical workshop on portrait photography, with male and female models that provides the student knowledge of portraiture, based on specific photographic techniques.
