Cost
The extra credit(s) earned for a short-term program abroad is registered during the same semester as the related on-campus course(s) or sessions. This means that full-time SU undergraduates pay no additional tuition charge for the overseas program, as long as they have not exceeded the 19-credit limit for the semester*. A program fee is charged to cover the cost of round-trip transportation, accommodations, group meals, ground transportation, and other activities and services for which a separate fee is not charged. Meals, personal transportation, and activities not related to the program are the responsibility of the student. Fees vary by program and are listed on the individual program pages.
*Graduate students and visiting students do pay a per-credit tuition charge for the additional credit(s) earned during the program abroad.
Aid
Because many of the short-term programs are integrated as elements of an on-campus course, grants and awards are not available. We encourage students to schedule a meeting with a financial aid counselor early in the planning stages to review program costs and your current need.
Withdrawal, Cancellation, and Refund Policy
Financial Commitment Deadline
Syracuse Abroad refund policy for short term programs is based on the timing of student’s decision to withdraw from the program.
The commitment deadline for Short Term programs is November 15.
If the decision is communicated to Syracuse Abroad before the commitment deadline:
- Study abroad students can withdraw, without any financial penalty from Syracuse Abroad, before the respective program commitment deadline. This means students will not incur charges on their bursar account from Syracuse Abroad if they withdraw before their program’s deadline.
Withdrawal after the commitment deadline may result in a charge up to the full amount of the program fee, based on applicable committed and unrecoverable costs incurred on behalf of students at the time of the withdrawal request.
If the decision is communicated to Syracuse Abroad after the commitment deadline:
- Syracuse Abroad will work with each student to minimize the financial impact of a withdrawal/cancellation. Refunds will be consistent with the University refund policy stated on the Policies Related to Tuition and Fees (page 5). Students are encouraged to read the policy.
- The actual amount of unrecoverable charges will depend on a variety of factors including type of housing and the point in time when the withdrawal/cancellation takes place.
