Step 3: Submit Finalized Proposal
Only proposals reviewed by your Study Abroad Liaison that meet the evaluation criteria will progress to this point.
After your proposal is reviewed by your school/college leadership and Syracuse Abroad academic staff, you will receive one of three possible responses:
- You will be invited to a meeting to discuss program/course feasibility, program type and location options
OR
- For semester long programs/courses: your study abroad liaison will give you a green light to submit the formal proposal form
The Formal Proposal form for semester-long programming may be accessed via your school/college Study Abroad Liaison and will be made available after a successful approval of the initial interest form.
OR
- For faculty-led programs: your study abroad liaison will ask you to submit a syllabus and itinerary
- Deadline: March 15
- The syllabi and itineraries for faculty-led programs should be emailed directly to suabroadsubmissions@syr.edu .
Upon submission, complete proposals will first be reviewed by your School/College Liaison and Syracuse Abroad after which they will be submitted to the Academic Affairs Committee.
Approval time will depend on the volume of proposals submitted, but you should expect to be notified by June 15 (or earlier) for proposals submitted for the January 20 deadline, and by November 15 (or earlier) for those submitted by the June 20 deadline.
Note: A successful submission does not guarantee immediate implementation. If your proposal is approved, the program development timeline will be determined by the Academic Affairs Committee based on the volume of approved new courses/programs across all schools and colleges, the relative complexity of implementation, enrollment potential, and other University priorities.
