Application Details

To come to Syracuse University as an exchange student, your first step is to obtain approval from the international office at your home university, as your nomination is required before Syracuse can review your application. Once your nomination is submitted, you may complete your online application.

Applications will open on the following dates:

  • February 1 for fall applications
  • August 1 for spring applications

Nomination Due Dates:

  • March 1 for the following fall or academic year
  • September 15 for the following spring

Application Due Dates:

  • April 1 for the following fall or academic year
  • October 1 for the following spring semester

The following Syracuse schools and colleges are open to Exchange Students:

  • The College of Arts & Sciences
  • School of Education 
  • The College of Engineering & Computer Science
  • The David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics 
  • School of Information Studies, 
  • The Martin J. Whitman School of Management 
  • Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs (graduate students in equivalent degree programs only)
  • S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications (open only to students at Stuttgart Media University, DMJX and Reichman University)
  • College of Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) (applicants may be subject to portfolio review prior to acceptance by Syracuse University)
  • School of Architecture (open only to students enrolled in professional degree programs; applicants may be subject to portfolio review prior to acceptance by Syracuse University)

Elements of an Incoming Exchange Application

You will need to provide the following documents and complete the following forms as part of your application:

  • Copy of your passport
  • Transcript or record of grades for university studies
  • Financial documentation (bank statement or funding award letter in English) showing cost of attendance for undergraduates or graduates.
  • English Proficiency Exam Results
    • Acceptable exams and scores can be found on the Syracuse University Admissions website
    • Note: Students whose native language is English or whose university classes are taught in English are exempt
  • Housing Request Form (included in your application)
  • Course Request/Advising Form (included in your application)
  • Portfolio or Audition Video (Required by departments in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the School of Architecture)

Next Steps: Application review will begin after the application due dates. If accepted, you will receive an email notification followed by an official welcome letter. Upon acceptance, the Syracuse University’s Center for International Services will process your I-20 (required to apply for a US student visa) and send it to you via email.
