Inspired Problem Solving in Italy

As part of our first cohort of students abroad in 2021, Syracuse Architecture student Jenna Merry ’23 has had a unique study abroad experience while at Syracuse University Florence.

“We have a chance to experience Florence without throngs of tourists. The palazzos that are usually crowded are peaceful, and that’s really special.”

2021 Gilman Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to the 23 Syracuse University students who received Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships for their upcoming study abroad programs in summer and fall 2021 and spring 2022! The total amount received by the students is $104,000, with the average award size being $4,500.

Gilman Scholarships are open to undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college/university to participate in study or internship programs abroad. We encourage all Syracuse Abroad students who meet the qualifications to apply for awards that can reach up to $8,000!

Funding for fall, spring, and summer study is available. Application deadline is the first Tuesday of March for summer/fall/full-year programs; the first Tuesday of October for spring semester and summer (early application).

Syracuse Abroad and the Center for Fellowship & Scholarship Advising (CFSA) will hold a Gilman Interest Session as well as writing workshops leading up to the next application deadline.

For more information on Syracuse Abroad programs, students can make an appointment to meet with an advisor or contact Mary Fedorko for more information.

Covid-19 Vaccine Requirement for 2021 Programs

Important announcement regarding Covid-19 Vaccine requirement: Consistent with the Chancellor’s message to the University community on April 8, 2021, Syracuse Abroad requires all participants to be fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to their departure for any program, unless students have obtained an approved medical or religious exemption.

Not only will the vaccine have a direct and positive impact on the quality of your study abroad experience,  we anticipate vaccine requirements being issued by destination governments in the very near future.

Any questions regarding the required vaccine can be directed to Bridget Demorest, Assistant Director Student Services
