Cost and Aid

Cost

Students studying abroad in a World Partner Program will be charged standard Syracuse University tuition plus a program fee through their Syracuse bursar account. For some programs, both Syracuse University and partner program fees will apply.

Generally, program fees include housing, meals, some transportation, and other associated fees, which vary depending on the specific partner institution and location. Students incur additional personal expenses during a World Partner Program, which can vary based on individual spending habits. Students are encouraged to schedule a meeting with their Syracuse Abroad program advisor or the Syracuse Abroad Business Office to understand the financial planning necessary for successful study abroad experience.

Additional expenses students may have to pay for during their program include the following examples:

  • Additional fees set by the partner institution.
  • Housing, if not included in the program fee.
  • Health insurance, and orientation.
  • Exchange rate for the U.S. dollar in the host country.
  • Meals not covered by the program fee
  • Other out-of-pocket expenses which may include, but are not limited to: transportation, round-trip airfare, passport and/or visa fees, required immunizations (if applicable), textbooks, independent travel, and daily living expenses

Withdrawal, Cancellation, and Refund Policy

Financial Commitment Deadline

Both Syracuse Abroad’s and the Partner program/institution’s financial commitment deadline may apply. Students are strongly encouraged to be aware of these deadlines, as withdrawal from the program after these dates for any reason may result in students owing up to the full cost of the program (program fees, course fees, and any other applicable fees).

Syracuse Abroad Program Fee Refund Policy – World Partner Students

After the financial commitment deadlines have passed for World Partner students, both the partner’s and Syracuse Abroad’s refund policies will apply. Syracuse Abroad’s refund policy for program fees is based on the timing of student’s decision to withdraw from a program.  Students are encouraged to research both policies to understand the implications. For more information on the Syracuse Abroad refund policy and financial commitment deadline please visit our Refund Policy Page.

Please note: World Partner students pay Syracuse tuition, and the standard tuition refund policies apply.

Partner’s Refund Policy

For detailed information on withdrawing from a partner institution’s program, students should consult the specific policies of the partner institution.

Students may find more information on partner refund policies in various ways depending on the program. They can visit the partner’s website, contact the partner directly, and review any agreements or documents provided by the partner. Please note that there may be other methods not listed here. Students are encouraged to thoroughly review these policies and discuss any concerns with their Syracuse Abroad program advisor to fully understand the implications of withdrawing from a partner institution’s program.

Financial Aid

Participating in Syracuse Abroad’s World Partner Programs involves understanding both the costs and available financial aid options. Students with financial aid who are approved to participate in study abroad will have their financial aid package reviewed by the Financial Aid Office for the semester or year they will be abroad. The total aid amount may be adjusted based on the total cost of attendance. Students can apply all Syracuse scholarships and Financial Aid except for work study to the cost of the program. Scholarships are available from a variety of sources. Please refer to the Grants and Aid section for more information
