Study abroad in Santiago, Chile

Welcome to SU Santiago!

From the top of the Andes to the Southern Cone, this two-site program is your gateway to the diversities of South America. Begin in Cuenca, Ecuador, where you'll advance your Spanish language skills in an environment that mixes a largely indigenous culture with Spanish heritage. Then you'll be bound for Santiago - Chile's vibrant capital. The city boasts more than 6 million residents and a wealth of cultural and education resources, including its top two universities, Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Catolica, where you will be taking classes. Note: At least three semesters of college-level Spanish are required for application to the program.

Santiago Center

This option is for students ready to enroll in university classes in Spanish and to develop expertise in Spanish language and one or more disciplines. (A Spanish language exam is given upon arrival, which will determine whether or not you should continue language study). In addition to taking classes in Spanish at local Chilean universities, you’ll enroll in the required Signature Seminar, Contemporary Issues in Chile and Latin America.

Santiago Center: Cuenca, Ecuador Immersion

This option is required for students who have completed less than two years of college-level Spanish and who need additional language instruction and/or review prior to study in Chile. The program is recommended for students who have already completed two years of Spanish language study and who seek an alternative pre-semester immersion experience in Cuenca.

Molly Estes

Molly Estes, a communications and rhetorical studies and sociology double major studied in Chile in fall 2014. Her most valuable experiences abroad were traveling independently with fellow students and practicing her Spanish on her travels.
