Student Advisor

Position Description:

Syracuse Florence Student Services has an opening for a full-time position within the Student Life office. This office provides extracurricular support and cultural resources to students while abroad.

The Student Advisor acts as an intermediary between students and the local community. As the main point of contact for the cohort, the SA is an enthusiastic and compassionate presence. SAs are proactive individuals who provide both supportive and pastoral services. They plan creative recreational activities, respond to student concerns, provide emergency support, and consistently demonstrate patience while guiding students through their international experience.

Ideal Candidates will have a strong interest in cultural immersion and providing a quality experience for all participants of the Syracuse Florence program. They are collaborative individuals with excellent organizational and communication skills. They are problem-solvers that remain calm under pressure and maintain composure in difficult situations.

Tentative start date: September 2024

Reports to Assistant Director, Student Services

Responsibilities:

In collaboration with Student Life Office staff

· Serve as friendly, customer-oriented, front-facing staff member to students. Respond and provide guidance for general student questions.

· Maintain consistent knowledge about the city of Florence and current events, to provide recommendations and prepare timely, informative communications for students.

· Plan extra-curricular calendar from pre-arrival through to the end of the semester, liaise with providers and attend events.

· Participate in Pre/Post-Arrival Orientation session presentations and activities.

· Establish partnerships with local Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) constituents. Generate mindful DEIA extra-curricular planning throughout the academic session.

· Maintain high levels of organization and attention to detail in preparation of promotional materials. Conduct Basic editing of digital content for social media posts, events, activities, weekly communications, notice boards, emails, presentations, and other front-facing materials.

In collaboration with Student Services Staff

· Serve as a member of the 24h Emergency team on rotation outside of office hours, maintaining timely and accurate incident reporting.

· Act as a case manager for student housing concerns, and as a support to the housing office.

· Assist the housing office with document and contract preparation, student or housing provider communications, and vetting of hosts or apartments.

· Participate in student conduct hearings and administrative process.

· Perform additional tasks related to Student Services as requested by the Coordinators and Assistant Director.

Requirements:

Excellent written and spoken English; Advanced written and spoken Italian.

Previous experience in a similar role.

Proficient use of social media preferred.
